The theme for the summer reading program statewide is One World, Many Stories. Summer reading programs can be fun and efficient ways to incorporate reading and other learning-related activities into summer family time. Reading gets better when you practice it. This summer, the Mancos Public Library has several programs to offer to a variety of ages.
Programs for Youth (5-12 years; younger children may attend if accompanied by an adult) Heavy Equipment Petting Zoo from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Boyle Park. Visit the park at this time and get a close-up look at several diggers and other heavy equipment machinery. Join the staff of the Four Corners School of Outdoor Education at the library from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, and learn more about local ecology using hands-on methods.
Program for Youth (ages 5 to 19 years and adult family members) Every Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. June through August at the library. Gaming Daze, a brand new selection of board games, as well as a Wii, will be available for everyone to enjoy. Staff will be present to assist youth as needed.
Program for Tweens and Teens (ages 10 to 19 years and adult family members) Saturday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Airsoft with the Mancos marshall. Topics to be covered are basic firearm safety, overview of models and brands, target practice and live strategy play. Come with or without an airsoft gun and (biodegradable) ammunition.
Programs for Teens (ages 13-19 years) Experience the World of Coffee, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 24. Come sample coffees grown around the globe, and roasted locally by Fahrenheit Coffee Roasters. We will discuss the fascinating history, culture and roasting practices of this stimulating bean. On Friday, July 29 from 7 to 9 p.m., we will explore Garage Bands. Calling all teen bands members. Lets plan a Teen Band event on Friday evening of Mancos days.
Programs for all ages (kids, teens, and adults) Reading Bingo. Mancos Public Library runs a reading contest bingo, with books of your choice as prizes for all who complete the bingo. The Teens Bingo Contest will have money prizes in addition to book prizes.
