May 22, 2017: The Mancos RE-6 School District is awarded a $20 million Building Excellent Schools Today grant.April 11, 2017: The district holds the first of several public meetings about the planned $25 million remodel, which will install safety features on all buildings and include major additions to the Middle School and Performance Center.July 17, 2017: A bond committee forms to advocate for a $5 million bond issue in the November election.Aug. 21, 2017: Monty Guiles, a school board member, announces his resignation in order to place a bid to become the owner’s representative for the construction project. The school board also approves a ballot question asking for the bond issue.Sept. 19, 2017: Guiles is hired as the owner’s representative.Sept. 21, 2017: The district holds the first of several public outreach events to provide information about the bond issue and the planned remodel.Oct. 2, 2017: The district hosts a public tour of the campus to show residents what needs to be fixed.Nov. 7, 2017: The bond issue passes in a mail-in election.Jan. 19, 2018: The district conducts general contractor interviews, ultimately choosing Jaynes Construction for the project.April 30, 2018: Mancos residents who live near the school are invited to an informational open house about the construction project.May 21, 2018: The school board approves a “guaranteed maximum price” for the construction, submitted by Jaynes, of $21 million.
