A Dolores couple has opened a new shop featuring hand-crafted wool clothing and custom wood and leather products.
Red Tail Creations, located at 501 Central Ave., is housed in the old JJ Harris Bank building, built in 1925 and restored by store owner Keith “Zippy” Kessler.
The spacious gallery with its original pressed-tin ceiling evokes a sense of history now warmed by racks of wool clothing, blankets, pillows and accessories created by Anna Marie Osuna.
“I love the color and designs of Pendleton,” Osuna says. “I make a lot of different styles and sizes and have been sewing my whole life.”
Besides wool coats and capes, she also creates stylish pistol cases, stuffed animals, Christmas stockings, hats, aprons, and baby buntings, perfect gifts for the holidays.
Zippy, as he’s known around town, is an accomplished leather and wood artist who has been in the trade for decades. His custom leather belts, knife sheaths, pistol holsters and rifle cases are all hand-stitched and designed for practicality and Western appeal.
“I have stock items and love to create made-to-order items that are memorable,” he said.
He’s also taken a liking to restoring old sewing machine bases and adding a custom wood table top.
“They’re ornate and sturdy and have a nostalgic appeal,” Zippy said.
The couple has been on the road for the past four years, and are excited about re-establishing their home base in Dolores.
“We have the perfect spot, so we thought this is the right time to open our showroom where we can work and create,” Osuna said.
