Darrian Bugg, daughter of Dennis Bugg of Dolores and Tina Tevault of Grand Junction, was named a Dimmitt Scholar at Morningside College in recognition of high academic distinction for the 2010-11 academic year.
Bugg, a sophomore with a major in nursing, is a graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School.
Dimmitt Scholars must be full-time students who have completed at least 45 credits of college work with a cumulative grade point average between 3.50 and 3.75. The award is named in honor of the late Lillian Dimmitt, who served as a teacher and administrator at Morningside College for more than 60 years.
Morningside College, located in Sioux City, Iowa, enrolled 1,991 full-time and part-time students for the 2010-11 academic year and welcomes students of all faiths and backgrounds. Morningside offers five bachelors degrees, including bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music, bachelor of music education, and bachelor of nursing, and a master of arts in teaching career. The college was founded in 1894 by the Methodist Episcopal Church and remains affiliated with the United Methodist Church today.
