The Tomlynns play at the distillery
The Mancos Valley Distillery presents the Cortez band The Tomlynns, Friday, Aug. 28.
Doors open at 5 p.m., and music starts at 8 p.m. There's a $3 cover charge, and "Taste Like Friday" cocktail specials will be served.
The Tomlynns harmonize to an eclectic mix of music ranging from country and bluegrass to reggae and modern pop, with vocalist Aaron LeMay on guitar and vocalist Carrie Schneider-LeMay on ukulele. For the past five years, they have enjoyed putting their own style into the covers they've played.

'Hands of Ancients workshop planned
Local artist Jan Wright is holding a free workshop on Thursday that utilizes her ?"Hands of the Ancients" medicine cards.
The 28-card deck features Wright's watercolor paintings of rock art, dwellings, artifacts and other iconography from the Four Corners region.
During the workshop, Wright will show participants how to spread the cards "to energetically receive guidance from the Ancient Ones," according to a notice about the event from the Mancos Public Library.
Use of cards during the workshop will be provided by the artist, and additional decks of cards will be available for purchase.
Visit the library to view a selection of the watercolor paintings from the artist's series. These paintings are featured through August on the library's Art Wall. The workshop is Thursday, Aug. 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. More information: Call the Mancos Public Library at 970-533-7600.
