Outdoor Retailer Show announces its commitment to call Colorado home

Annual expo expected to be a $110 million economic impact for the state
Colorado government officials and leaders from the outdoor recreational industry announced Thursday that the Outdoor Retailer Show will move to Denver after being held in Salt Lake City for more than 20 years. Gov. John Hickenlooper said the show will not only be an economic boost to the state, but will also solidify its place as a leader on outdoor and environmental issues.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said Thursday that Denver stands to have the most direct benefit of the Outdoor Retail Show moving in state but the impact will spread statewide as businesses are encouraged to open in Colorado.
Luis Benitez, director of Colorado’s Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, said the specifics of the deal with the retailer show are still being worked out but the show will be held in Denver for the foreseeable future.
The Outdoor Retailer show at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City brought thousands of outdoor enthusiasts to Utah each year. Now, the show is coming to Denver.
Two major outdoor recreation trade shows are merging for one big expo to be held in Denver. Emerald Expositions, which produces the Outdoor Retailer trade show that’s leaving Salt Lake City after two decades over political differences, acquired the SnowSports Industries America Snow Show that is held each winter in Denver.
