After winning the San Juan Basin League Invitational last year, the Dove Creek High School girls track team returned to action this season and enjoyed less favorable results.
Trotting a young team onto the track in Ignacio on April 14, the Lady Bulldogs finished 6th in the seven-team field. Dolores and Telluride tied at the top of the San Juan Basin League standings.
Larissa Randolph led the way for the Bulldogs with a 1st place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (52.51), while Mikayla Hankins finished 6th in the discus (78 feet, 3 inches) and 7th in the shot put (23 feet, 10 ½ inches).
Dove Creek’s 4x200 relay made up of Maureen Bartley, Brenna Anderson, Shayla Greenwood and Cortney Ogas finished 3rd, (2:04.28), as did the Bulldogs 4x400-meter relay made up of Desirhae Ketcherside, Savannah Ayers, Baughman and Randolph (5:27.59).
The Bulldogs 4x100-meter relay composed of Baughman, Ketcherisde, Ayers and Randolph finished 4th (57.48).
On the boys’ side, Dove Creek finished 7th in the meet, which was won by Mancos High School.
Case Baughman led the Bulldogs with a 2nd place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (18.33) and a 4th place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (46.07), and Ricky Adams finished 6th in the discus 86 feet, 11 inches) and 7th in the shot put (32 feet, 3 inches).
Next up for the Bulldogs track teams will be the B&B Invitational, which will take plce in Aztec, April 24-25.
