FARMINGTON – The U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced it will hold an information session about a proposed solar project near Farmington.
The session will be a virtual workshop via Zoom from 6 to 8 p.m. May 27 about the Shiprock Solar Project. The meeting is open to the public, but registration is required at the BLM Farmington Field Office’s website.
The solar project would be located near Waterflow, New Mexico, about 4 miles north of the San Juan Generating Station. The area would cover 1,980 acres of BLM-administered public lands and 555 acres of private lands, according to the BLM announcement.
The project is estimated to generate about 372 megawatts of electricity and would be connected to regional electrical system grids to distribute power throughout the area, according to the BLM’s proposal.
There are two options for substations, including the Western Area Power Administration Substation.
