Tuesday, April 30
3:35 p.m. A driver in a pickup with Missouri license plates drove away from a gas pump with the hose still in the fuel intake pipe while at a gas station in the 300 block of Main Street. The pickup was spotted as far away as Towaoc still dragging the hose.
9:50 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI after an officer witnessed him fail to stop at a stop sign at South Washington Street and East Main Street and use his turn signal. He also reportedly drove 15 mph in a 25 mph zone on North Park Street. He was stopped at North Sligo and Empire streets, and at the Cortez Police Department, a breath-analysis test gave him a blood-alcohol reading of 0.298. He received a medical clearance from Southwest Memorial Hospital and was taken to the Montezuma County Detention Center.
Wednesday, May 1
12:21 a.m. A man turned himself in on an outstanding warrant at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
10:09 a.m. A man was issued an outstanding warrant at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., and left at the Montezuma County Detention Center.
5:28 p.m. An officer was called to the 1400 block of North Mildred Road after a driver backed her car into another car. The woman admitted responsibility for the fender-bender and was issued a municipal penalty assessment for unsafe backing.
Thursday, May 2
2:16 a.m. A man was issued an outstanding arrest warrant in the initial block of south Sligo Street.
11:32 a.m. A woman was arrested at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., for trespassing after she fell asleep at a desk.
9:10 p.m. An officer requested an arrest warrant for a woman who allegedly punched a hole through her apartment into the neighboring apartment, in the 400 block of Cedar St., because she suspected someone was “tied up” there. An officer determined she made earlierl false claims about the neighboring apartment, and she appeared to be hallucinating. No one was found tied up in the neighboring apartment, and the officer requested a warrant for harassment and criminal mischief.
Friday, May 3
3:48 p.m. A man was arrested for failure to appear in the 800 block of North Mildred Road. He was taken to the Montezuma County Detention Center.
Saturday, May 4
2:28 a.m. A man was arrested in the 100 block of E. Main Street for DUI after an officer was called on a welfare check concerning a man who was slumped over the steering wheel of his van. He failed roadside sobriety checks, and a breath-analysis test gave a blood-alcohol reading of 0.233. The man stated to the officer, “I knew I was too impaired to drive, so I was sleeping in my car.” He was taken to the Montezuma County Detention Center.
10:05 a.m. A man was arrested in the 1600 block of E. Main Street on a warrant for failure to comply and was taken to the Montezuma County Detention Center.
5:29 p.m. A woman was arrested in the 500 block of E. Main Street for violating bond conditions and was then accused of possession of drug paraphernalia.
7:54 p.m. A man was arrested for violating a protection order and bond conditions after an officer was called to a fight in City Park, 802 E. Main St. While in the police cruiser, the man became verbally abusive toward officers, and when he was removed from the vehicle, was restrained after becoming combative. He reportedly was abusive again at Southwest Memorial Hospital, where he had been taken for a medical check, spitting on an officer at least twice. A spit hood was placed on his head, and he was taken to Montezuma County Detention Center.
Sunday, May 5
10:09 a.m. A woman was arrested on two outstanding warrants in the 600 block of S. Broadway and taken to the Montezuma County Detention Center.
1:42 p.m. A man was arrested in the 800 block of East Main Street for a warrant for failure to appear. He was left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
Monday, May 6
3:33 p.m. A man was arrested on a warrant at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., and taken to the Montezuma County Detention Center.
7:04 p.m. A man was arrested for an outstanding warrant after an officer was called to a sports bar in the 700 block of Main Street about a physical fight involving four men. The man was left in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
