The city of Cortez is in the beginning design stages for the community beautification plans. On Thursday, Feb. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cortez Recreation Center, Heart and Soul will conduct a beautification workshop for residents to help plan the design of the South Broadway medians, and improvements for downtown and the town entryways of highways 491, 145 and 160.
Heart and Soul of Cortez wants community members to step up and be part of this process. The median rebuilding will be the first item addressed. Construction will be underway this summer and should not disrupt traffic flow. In order to successfully find a balance between each project, Heart and Soul is looking at the ideas from the community to help put construction plans in action.
The design will be completely conceptual for the time being but the city wants an entirely cohesive approach to this beginning process. There will be a team of design illustrators on hand to translate ideas or community members may draw their own. Presentations will occur at 4:15 and 5:45 p.m. but visitors are welcome to drop in at anytime during the workshop. Make sure to bring plenty of ideas on the reconstruction and beautification of the area that will help reflect and define the city's character.
Heart and Soul would like this opportunity to bring out the diverse and cultural aspects of the community and freely discuss how to incorporate those qualities into these projects. Free refreshments and child care will be provided to participants. For more information on the workshop, please contact Kirsten Sackett at 564-4049 or send an email to [email protected].
