Native of Mexico becomes priest on anniversary of Theatine Order
Newly ordained Father Francisco Javier Diaz Moreno hugs Father Pat Valdez, pastor of St. Margaret Mary’s Church, for accepting his request to be ordained in Cortez on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross the 491st anniversary of the establishment of the Theatine Order by St. Cajetan in Rome.
St. Margaret Mary’s Church was packed with parishioners and family of DeaconFrancisco Javier Diaz Moreno at 5 p.m. Monday. Knights of Columbus with swords drawn provided the Honor Guard.
Dignitaries arrived on a buckboard owned and built by Bob Bragg, the driver. Sitting in front with Bragg is Francisco Javier Diaz Moreno. Bishop Emeritus Arthur Tafolya, the celebrant sits in back wearing glasses, with the Very Rev. Heriberto Torres, C.R., Provincial Superior of the Theatine Order. Poncho is the draft horse looking at the camera while Cisco plods along.
