To say that the citizens should be allowed to determine which laws they will obey is absurd. However, the sheriff does have the authority to decide which laws will be enforced in his jurisdiction. The citizens of Montezuma County elected Dennis Spruell as their sheriff. The people elected him because they felt he had the same convictions as they did. The majority of the citizens of Montezuma County know just how useless the new anti-gun restrictions really are. I believe that Sheriff Spruell also recognizes this! Will a 15-round limit on mag capacity make people any safer? No! Will making it more difficult to get a concealed weapon permit make us safer? No! Will charging people a $10 fee to buy a firearm make people safer? Again, no!
The liberal Democrats shamelessly used the deaths of 20 children to further their anti-gun agenda. If public safety were truly their goal, they would have made an effort to put security officers in every school. They would have worked to make sure that people with mental issues were not able to purchase firearms. Not even one of the bills introduced addressed these issues.
When the next election comes around, I am betting that the people will remember who has their best interests at heart and who does not!
