A Cortez Journal staffer and a combined website page for the Journal and Durango Herald were recognized last weekend at the annual Inland Press Association convention.
Journal Editor Dale Shrull was honored with a second place award in the national contest for a feature story he wrote.
Competing in the newspapers with a circulation of less than 10,000 division, Shrull won in the Personality Profile category for his story on Easton LaChappelle, the Mancos High School student who made a robotic hand and placed in a national science competition.
In the Digital Journalism category, a combined website page at durangoherald.com and cortezjournal.com earned a second place award for the Election 2012 site in the general excellence category.
The Inland Press Association was founded in 1885 and is based in Chicago, which is where the convention was held and the awards announced.

In August, Shrull and Journal photographer Sam Green won awards from the National Newspaper Association.
