Spooktacular Halloween light display happens nightly
The public is invited to view a free Spooktacular Halloween light show set to music for kids and adults alike. Enjoy the show nightly from 7 to 10:30 p.m. from now through Sunday, Nov. 4. The display is located south of Cortez at 6821 Hwy. 160/491 (next to Redburn Tire). This annual light display is done as a gift to the community.
Garage sale fundraiser for Samora family
An all-day community garage sale will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lewis Arriola Community Center, 21615 Rd. S. Many nice items will be available, with something for everyone. All proceeds go to Samora Family Fund. Thank you for your continued support.
Presbyterian Women Fall/Christmas Bazaar
The Presbyterian Women will hold their Fall/Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 350 S. Washington St., in Cortez. Pie and drinks will be served all day for $1.50 and lunch of your choice of soups, bread, pie and a drink will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $5 for adults, and $3 for children age 10 and under. There will be breads, pies, cakes, candy, cookies, jams, jellies, pickles, salsa, crafts, plants, gift items and more. Pleasant View Elementary Fall Harvest Carnival
Pleasant View Elementary School will host its 12th annual Fall Harvest Carnival on Saturday, Nov. 3. Vista Grande nursing home holds beaded jewelry bazaar
Vista Grande nursing home is holding their first ever beaded jewelry bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the nursing home lobby. The bazaar was started by staff and aids who helped Vista Grande residents design and make pieces of jewelry and other accessories. There will be earrings, necklaces, bracelets and decorated flip flops for sale. All the proceeds will be donated to benefit Parkinsons disease. Dancing with the Cortez Stars fundraiser
A night of foxtrotting, waltzing, salsa and tango is coming to Montezuma-Cortez High School Auditorium on Sunday, Nov. 4 starting at 6:30 p.m. Channeling the well-known broadcast of Dancing With the Stars, Come Dance Tonight! studio presents Dancing With the Cortez Stars. Denise Westbrook, owner and director of the studio located at 30 West Main St., is working with leaders of the community to perform a professional, choreographed dance for judges and audience members. Speaker to discuss prehistoric kilns
The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeological Society will host Joe Brisbin to discuss Prehistoric Kilns and their Firing Regimen on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 515 Park St., Cortez. This is a unique opportunity to discover how and where to find pottery kilns on the landscape, how they were constructed, the regimen of firing, and why location and air flow were important. Brisbin spent 45 years as a field archaeologist in the Four Corners region and spent five years as an excavation crew chief on the Dolores Archaeological Project. Capitol Christmas Tree comes through
The Capitol Christmas Tree will arrive in Cortez on Friday, Nov. 9 as part if its 3,000 mile journey to Washington, D.C. The tree is being cut near Meeker. The 74-year-old, 73-foot tall tree will be placed on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol and decorated with more than 5,000 ornaments handmade by Colorado children. Former Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell will be driving the truck.
The Tree will be in Cortez from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the parking lot by First National Bank, 2258 E. Main.

Pancake Supper fundraiser and trip raffle
Hospice of Montezuma invites the community to a pancake supper and raffle drawing for a trip of a lifetime on Friday, Nov. 9 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Montezuma County Annex, 103 N. Chestnut in Cortez. Tickets for the supper and the raffle will be available from Hospice employees, at the Hospice office or sold at the door. The pancake supper will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, bacon, eggs, dessert toppings and beverages, and is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children and $15 for families. The raffle drawing will be held at 6:30 p.m. for a voucher from Cortez Travel in the amount of $4,000 to be used towards a trip of your dreams. SW Colorado Concerts Grand to be Irish show
Songwriter, masterful pianist, comedian and one of Irelands best vocalists, Cahal Dunne, will appear in concert in Cortez on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. in the Montezuma-Cortez High School Auditorium as the second concert offered this season by SouthWest Colorado Concerts. A native of Ireland, he has performed with such luminaries as Bob Hope, Denis Day and ABBA, and has appeared on the David Letterman Show, Entertainment Tonight and PBS. Renew will begin the Fall/Winter Domestic and Sexual Violence Community Education Series on Monday, Nov. 12. Olsen will read selections from her new short story fiction collection Recapture, and Feela from his recent essay collection How Delicate These Arches (Colorado Book Awards Finalist) and The Home Atlas, a book of poetry. The Cortez Elks Lodge, 2100 N. Dolores Rd., is offering table rentals for their upcoming 17th Annual Christmas Bazaar, to be held on Sunday, Dec. 9. Annual Turkey Trot Fun Run/Walk
For Pets Sake Humane Society will hold its Ninth Annual Cortez Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 at the Parque de Vida Pavilion near the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 Roger Smith Avenue. The 1 mile fun run/walk starts at 10 a.m., regardless of the weather.

The Annual Dolores Community Center Christmas Bazaar will be held this year on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bazaar already has 40 vendors signed up to display various crafts such as Christmas wreaths, scarves, candles, homemade breads, pies and pumpkin rolls. Series of Christian conversations
How You Can Be Part of a Christian Community With Integrity and Not Believe All Those Things You Thought You Had to Believe.
