The Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College kicks off its summer lecture series about woman in the Southwest with a presentation from Judith Reynolds, “O’Keeffe’s Odyssey to the West,” on June 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lyceum Room No. 120.
Reynolds will discuss Georgia O’Keeffe’s rise to national prominence, her move to the Southwest and the way she navigated the seasons of her life. She died in 1986 at age 98, leaving questions about her life, images and medical history.
Reynolds is an arts journalist and historian, and a political cartoonist. After a career in academia, she worked as a journalist for an upstate New York paper. In 1994, she and her late husband, David, moved to Durango, where she began freelancing for the Durango Herald and teaching occasionally at Fort Lewis College.
The lecture is free to the public. Parking on campus is free during summer.
The Center of Southwest Studies, now in its 54th year, provides free public lectures and events year-round at its museum, research library and archives facility at Fort Lewis College. For more information, call 970-247-7456 or visit http://swcenter.fortlewis.edu.
