With all due respect, are all the people in Montezuma County lemmings? Just follow the crowd. Alex Carter (Cortez Journal, Oct. 10) used the analogy of a farmer upgrading to a newer tractor to improve his farms production. Not close, sir. The results of his upgrade are obvious and observable. What makes anyone think that a new facility is going to change the downward spiral in student performance. You are simply taking the same sore feet and putting them in a new pair of shoes. The bunions, fallen arches and poor health arent changed so you still have foot pain. Nice stylen shoes but no change in comfort. The same can be said for a new facility. Poor student behavior, performance and outcome, but the building is really cool.
Change the behavior and performance, then build a new facility if needed. My brothers, sisters and friends attended schools built in the 1920s. We had no trouble learning. One of the universities I attended was built in the 1800s and it worked just fine. Splain that to me, Alex. Those that want to learn will; those that dont wont. Simply making them feel wanted by building them a new facility will change the outcome? Come on. Perhaps spending much needed time and funds on pamphlets, brochures, billboards and road signs would have been better spent on the present facility and students. I could go on, but you get the idea. A new facility is not the answer.
