For anyone in School District RE-1 thinking they might vote no on Ballot Question 3B bonding for a new high school I ask that you please first do the math. By that I mean, take a minute to figure out exactly what it will cost you for Cortez to have an up-to-date high school.
The tax impact of passing the bond issue will be $1.95 per month for $100,000 of residential property value. In other words, for many homeowners it will come to two or three dollars a month. Its hard to imagine that the benefits to our young people, and our community generally, would not be worth that.
If you cant put your hands on your last property tax statement, just call the assessors office (565-3428) and ask them. Theyll be glad to help you. If you own commercial or agricultural property, the assessor can help you with that also, or you can get pertinent information on the website www.mchsbond.com.
