The Center of Southwest Studies has announced its summer lecture series based on the theme “Women in the Southwest.” The series kicks off with a presentation from journalist and art critic Judith Reynolds on Wednesday, June 13. It’s titled “O’Keeffe’s Odyssey to the West.”
Other dates and presenters include:
June 27: “Three Women, One Story: 1,000 Years of Art, History, and Culture” with author Kate Nelson
July 11: “Millicent Rogers – From New York to Taos” with Center of Southwest Studies director Shelby Tisdale
July 18: “Western Women We Respect – Durango’s Own Olga Little” with FLC history professor Andrew Gulliford
July 25: “Alice Eastwood – Pioneer Botanist in the Four Corners” with Marietta Eaton, manager of the Canyon of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum
Aug. 8: “Mable Dodge Luhan and Company – Creating Southwest Modernism” with U Mass Boston Professor Emerita, Lois Rudnick
Aug. 22: “Slim Woman – Louisa Wade Wetherill of Kayenta” with historian Harvey Leake
Lectures will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Center’s Lyceum Room 120. Lectures are free to the public, and parking is free during summer.
