The Bureau of Land Management is accepting applications for the 2018 Canyons of the Ancients National Monument artist-in-residence program. Applications are due by May 18.
“The monument provides a unique opportunity for artists to work amongst some of the most inspiring and culturally rich areas in the country,” Marietta Eaton, BLM Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, Visitor Center and Museum manager, said in a news release.
Nationally, the BLM’s artist-in-residence program offers residencies in several Western states for painters, photographers, potters, sculptors and other artists, founded on the belief that artists challenge ideas, experiment and create new ways of “seeing” public lands, the news release said.
Each residency is eight days between July 1 and Sept. 30 and includes a $700 stipend. Housing, room and board and transportation must be arranged and provided by the selected artist.
To apply, review the application guidelines at https://www.blm.gov/learn/interpretive-centers/CANM-visitor-center-museum. Selected artists will be notified by June 30.
