At the regular Rico Fire Protection District meeting held on Sept. 17, Administrator David Kunz reported that the Rico Center grant is getting fulfilled but that he is having difficulty getting a response on the EMT-B class from Pueblo Community College.
Mr. Kunz is also holding off on spending the last of the budget for ambulance supplies until he can a quote for a service contract and new batteries for the Lifepak 12 defibrillator that Dolores County recently donated.The Colorado Fire Relief Fund grant has been awarded and is being fulfilled. This grant is for wild land fire PPE, hose fittings and hand tools. No further word on SWCOG acting as financial agent for the SWAHAC grant.
Mr. Kunz established that the Rico Fire Protection District did sign a 2-year contract with Business Options in March of 2011 and asked the District if they want to pursue ambulance billing through them or to use Carol Mellott, who does the billing for Dove Creek and several other regional services. The District directed Mr. Kunz to use Business Options.
On behalf of the Fire Chiefs Report, David Kunz mentioned that Colorado Fire Fighter Academy is coming up in Pagosa Springs on the weekend of October 13 and 14, 2012. Mr. Kunz stated that he sent out an email in regards to CFFA to the Fire Department and that Dylan Robertson was interested in going. Mr. Kunz applied for a scholarship for Mr. Robertson but does not know if it will be awarded, but the District should consider covering Mr. Robertsons tuition if the tuition is not awarded.
Regarding the 2012-2013 Rico Center grant, Mr. Kunz stated that the items he has as pending requests for the Rico Center grant are mobile radios and a SAR trailer. The District directed Mr. Kunz to not apply for the trailer as the grant is due in ten days and there are not enough specifics on what is needed.
David Kunz reported that the Labor Day fund raiser totaled approximately $2,000. That plus the July 4th fundraising brought the total income for the fireworks event approximately $8,000. There was a short discussion in regards to bringing expenses for the fireworks event in line with the anticipated revenue.
In regards to the 2012 Application for State Contribution to Volunteer Firefighter Pension Fund, a short discussion was held whether approval of this item required a motion. The District decided that a motion was not needed to apply for funds.
