Editor:
I have read previous letters stating their support for the upcoming 3B ballot referendum based on building strong schools and boosting the local economy. I concur 100 percent and wish to raise my voice to the appeal to vote yes on 3B.
As a relative newcomer to this area. I have been greatly disappointed with the communitys general apathy and negativity toward the Re-1 school district. It seems that everyone my wife and I have spoken to criticize the school district and the quality of education provided students here. The evidence is clear that Re-1 is struggling; there is no question about that.
However, I attended the school board meeting the other night and was greatly impressed with Alex Carter, the new superintendent. His positive, upbeat can-do attitude is contagious. New programs and areas of emphasis are already beginning to show gains in student performance. Hiring Mr. Carter was a great step in the right direction to changing our schools.
The BEST grant is the next step and the communitys opportunity to show that it supports and believes in the children of Montezuma County. This grant will fuel the spark of success already taking place in the school district and with proper care will transform the educational experience in Montezuma County. If you are truly concerned about the quality of education then vote yes to keep the spark alive!
