Flu shots anyone?
Vaccines for the influenza virus are available at several locations in Montezuma County.
The flu virus tends to spread from October to May, with most cases occurring in January or February. Vaccinations can be given at any time during the flu season even getting a vaccination later in the season (December through March) can still help protect one from influenza, according to FamiliesFightingFlu.org.
The Montezuma County Health Department, 106 W. North St., offers flu shots for $25 on Mondays only. The walk-in clinic is available from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., while appointments are available from 1 to 6 p.m. Payments can be made with cash or check or through Medicare/Medicaid.
Walmart offers flu shots for only $20, but only on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
City Market and Safeway offer flu shots seven days a week when their stores are open. City Market charges $25 and Safeway charges $30, but Safeway gives flu-shot recipients a 10 percent grocery store coupon. Safeway also offers a high-dose flu shot for those age 65 and up. That shot costs $60, but those with a Part A or B Medicare card would pay nothing.
City Market and Safeway pharmacies are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Walgreens is also offering flu shots for $31.99.
