12:33 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of theft at Blue Door Traders, 23915 County Road G, Cortez. The owner reported a set of four tires, valued at $1,200, had been stolen about a month before. He told deputies he suspected two men who had come into his store about that time and appeared to have moved one of the tires. The case remains under investigation.
Monday, April 9
10:31 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge.
11:41 p.m.: Two men and two women were arrested in the 2500 block of East Main Street after a source reported a group of people planned to transport heroin from Cortez to Durango. Officers and Colorado State Patrol troopers pulled over a vehicle in the 29000 block of U.S. Highway 160 that matched the source’s description and found a large amount of meth and heroin attached to its undercarriage, although the driver and passenger did not match the description of the suspects. One of the original suspects was found in a vehicle on East Main Street, carrying a briefcase that officers suspected to contain drugs after a K9 sniffed it. The man with the briefcase was arrested on three warrants from Montezuma and Montrose counties. A female passenger was arrested on two La Plata County warrants, and on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and first-degree introduction of contraband after a bag of meth was found on her in the jail. A male passenger from the first car was arrested on suspicion of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Another female passenger from the second vehicle was arrested by troopers on multiple felony warrants.
Tuesday, April 10
3:31 p.m.: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief in the 200 block of East Third Street. A man reported someone had shattered a window in his vehicle with a rock between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m., causing about $175 in damage.
7:56 p.m.: A man was cited on suspicion of third-degree assault and harassment at City Market, 508 E. Main St., after another man reported he had punched him in the face. The other man was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital for a bloody nose and a cut on the head.
Thursday, April 12
6:22 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident in the Dolores High School parking lot, 1301 Central Ave., Dolores. A man told deputies he had failed to look behind him while backing up and had hit an unoccupied vehicle. Both vehicles sustained minor damage, but there were no reported injuries. The driver and the other vehicle’s owner exchanged insurance information and agreed to settle the matter civilly.
Friday, April 13
9:08 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of fraud in the 200 block of South Sixth Street. A man reported he had listed a brush mower on Craigslist for $1,200, and an anonymous buyer had sent him a check for $2,450. When the man asked about the overage, the buyer reportedly asked him to send the extra money via Walmart money transfer. After he complied with the request, the buyer reportedly asked for a refund on the mower, rousing the man’s suspicions. The case remains under investigation.
Saturday, April 14
6:25 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 80 block of Central Ave., Dolores, on a warrant for failure to appear after she was pulled over for speeding.
Monday, April 16
9:37 a.m.: A man was remanded into custody from Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., for contempt after he reportedly appeared in court while intoxicated.
1:03 p.m.: A man and a woman were arrested in the 6000 block of County Road 24.2 on suspicion of third-degree assault and domestic violence. The man claimed the woman, his wife, had struck him in the head with a tire iron and broken his phone during an extended argument. The woman claimed her husband had forced her into a vehicle and when they got home, had taken her phone and keys, shoved her and tackled her to the ground.
3:34 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of theft in the 200 block of South Fourth Street, Dolores. A woman reported two handicap placards had been stolen out of her vehicle sometime between April 11 and 13. The case remains under investigation.
Wednesday, April 18
3:24 p.m.: Two Blue Door Trader employees were cited on suspicion of stealing motor vehicle parts. On April 14, deputies responded to a report they had stolen the tires and rims off a truck in the 23000 block of County Road F.5. The tires were reportedly similar to the ones the men reported stolen from their inventory on April 5, and deputies reportedly found them in the tire section of the store. One of the employees reportedly said they were his tires, and “all he did was take back what was rightfully his.” The woman who owned the vehicle from which the tires were stolen said a man had bought them on Facebook and they had been on the truck for about three months. The rims and tires were valued at $960 total.
