A warm and wet Pacific storm system will bring the potential for heavy rain in Montezuma County and snow at higher elevations this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Very warm and breezy to windy conditions are expected Saturday afternoon, followed by significant moisture Saturday evening through Sunday. Snow levels will start off about 12,000 feet through Saturday night and drop to 8,000 feet in northwest Colorado by Sunday morning.
The moisture-laden system carries the potential for heavy rain in the valleys and foothills, with snowfall above 10,000 to 12,000 feet. Localized flooding may occur in some areas, the weather service said.
“Snowfall amounts and snow levels will be tricky to predict,” the weather service said.
In Montezuma County today, the high temperature is expected to reach 60 degrees, with 5-10 mph winds in the afternoon. Overnight, expect mostly cloudy skies and a low of 40 degrees.
Friday’s high is expected to be near 62, with a 20 percent chance of isolated showers before noon and an overnight low of 40.
On Saturday afternoon, as the Pacific storm approaches Southwest Colorado, there’s a light chance of showers between noon and 3 p.m., followed by a slight chance of showers after 3 p.m.
The potential for showers increases to 70 percent on Saturday night and to 40 percent on Sunday morning. Sunny skies are expected Monday through Wednesday.
