I moved my family to the Dolores area in 2008 from Denver because I had heard what a wonderful school Dolores had.
My son, Matthew Campbell, started that fall and loved his teacher and fellow students. Everything was good until he started the 11th grade, which also happened to be Jenifer Hufman’s first year as principal. He was bullied by some peers so bad that when he reached out for help, he was punished by the administration for being the victim of bullies. Many unforgivable things happened at the hands of the administration thereafter. I struggled to get the situation resolved with no real success. During one of our many meetings, Ms. Hufman admitted to the room that she had actually been the bully while she was in school. We had many, many meetings with the administration and (Superintendent) Scott Cooper trying to get Matthew’s situation straightened out, but at every meeting, we were promised things that never came to be.
After his horrible 11th-grade year, we left Dolores and Colorado. Matthew had to have therapy because of what he went through at the hands of the administration of Dolores Secondary School. He was actually diagnosed as showing signs of PTSD. After leaving Dolores, he had a wonderful senior year at a small school in New Mexico and is doing better. I applaud you all for taking a stand against this problem.
