8:39 a.m.: Police responded to a report of property damage in southwest Cortez. A man reported someone had written threats and insults addressed to him all over his front door and mail box in permanent marker, including statements like “We all hate you move out.” The case remains under investigation.
9:43 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.
2:20 p.m.: A woman was arrested in Cortez City Park, 802 E. Main St., on two Grand Junction Police Department and Weld County warrants for failure to appear on felony charges.
5:16 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of trespassing in the 400 block of South Beech Street after a woman reported he had climbed the fence around her yard and tried to get into her back door.
Thursday, March 15
2:45 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on a municipal warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge.
4:27 p.m.: A man was arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to severe intoxication.
6:18 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of North Park Street on a municipal warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge.
Friday, March 16
1:29 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 2100 block of South Broadway on suspicion of DUI, failing to drive in a single lane, failing to display headlights when required, driving with defective brake lights and prohibited use of weapons. While the man’s vehicle was being towed for the traffic violations, an officer reportedly saw a handgun lying on the vehicle’s floorboard and confiscated it. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to intoxication.
12:41 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.
Saturday, March 17
10:08 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of trespassing at City Market, 508 E. Main St., after store employees reported she was yelling at a gas station attendant.
5:58 p.m.: A man was arrested at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
9:50 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 100 block of North Market Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se and driving with a defective license plate lamp.
Sunday, March 18
3 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the parking lot of Angel’s End Zone, 309 N. Broadway, on a La Plata County warrant and on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, failing to use a turn signal, making a left turn from the wrong lane, failing to present proof of insurance and driving under restraint. The woman reportedly told police she had been drinking at Blondie’s Trophy Room. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
8:34 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of trespassing at City Market, 508 E. Main St.
11:56 a.m.: A man was arrested at the EconoLodge, 2020 E. Main St., on a municipal warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge.
Monday, March 19
12:21 a.m.: A man was arrested at Parque de Vida, 400 N. Mildred Road, on suspicion of an open container violation and possession of alcohol in the park after police asked him to leave due to the park being closed. When he did not cooperate, an officer arrested him. He reportedly had a half-full bottle of whiskey with him. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication. On the way to the hospital, he reportedly threatened to come after the arresting officer and his family, and to sue the police department for mistreating him.
1:14 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 800 block of North Edith Street on suspicion of third-degree assault, harassment, resisting arrest and domestic violence after police responded to a disturbance between him and his girlfriend. The girlfriend claimed the man had grabbed her by the hair and lifted her off a couch. The man reportedly resisted being handcuffed until the arresting officers pushed him to the ground and used a stun gun on his back. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to the stun gun exposure and possible drug intoxication.
3:50 p.m.: A man was arrested at Compliance Drug and Alcohol Testing, 1011 N. Mildred Road, on two La Plata County warrants for failure to appear on felony charges.
6:43 p.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of an open container violation and possession of alcohol in the park. Two women who appeared to be sharing a bottle of Listerine with him were issued summonses for the same violations. Responding officers reportedly arrested the man after he started to yell loudly and refused to calm down.
8:44 p.m.: A man and a woman were issued summonses on suspicion of trespassing at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.
9:56 p.m.: A man and a woman were arrested in the 200 block of West Main Street on suspicion of first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft after they were pulled over for speeding. Their license plates reportedly did not match the vehicle, and when arresting officers checked the vehicle identification numbers, they matched a stolen vehicle. The male driver reportedly told officers a friend of his had given him the car and said the woman didn’t know it was stolen. The woman reportedly claimed the man had told her he was borrowing the car from a friend. Police contacted the owner of the vehicle, who was from Utah.
Tuesday, March 20
2:01 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Montezuma Thrift Shop, 444 E. Main St., after store employees claimed she had tried to steal a total of 75 items of clothing, shoes, key chains, hygiene products and electrical gadgets. An employee reportedly said the woman’s shoplifting had been an ongoing issue.
7:36 p.m.: A man was arrested outside Giant Gas Station, 921 E. Main St., on warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.
8:06 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 100 block of North Mildred Road on suspicion of mistreating a police K-9 after police responded to a report that she was arguing with a man in the area. One officer offered to give the woman a courtesy ride to the Bridge Emergency Shelter, but on the way, she reportedly started banging on the partition that separated her from the K-9 in the patrol car, yelling, “I’ll kill you.”
