A food-safety class for Colorado cottage food and egg producers will be held from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 11 at La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The La Plata County Extension Office and Colorado Department of Health and Environment for Food Safety have partnered to hold the training.
The course will cover requirements for cottage food as a business. Topics include: food safety; safe-food handling; cross-contamination and cross-contact of food allergens; temperature control for safe food preparation, storage, transport and sales; ingredient labeling; disclaimer requirements; and business specifics and expectations for selling backyard eggs and food items produced in a home kitchen.
The cost is $30, and each participant will receive a certificate at the end of the class.
Registration deadline is April 6. The class is limited to 30 people.
