I am a candidate for Dolores Town Trustee. On March 16, the League of Women Voters hosted a candidate forum at the Dolores Community Center. I extend my thanks to league members Pat Kantor and Judy Schuenemeyer and to volunteers for organizing and facilitating Friday’s event, as well as community members and candidates for their participation in our local democratic process.
The forum was an important educational and informational opportunity. We learned that all candidates want a new playground and that each values our outdoor resources. We all want increased economic opportunities that do not disrupt our small-town atmosphere. However, candidates have different points of view about how best to accomplish the revitalization Dolores needs.
I believe when people with different ideas come together to work toward common goals, the results are better, wiser and stronger than if a few push their own agendas. A many-fibered rope is stronger than a single strand.
I encourage residents to reach out to candidates you don’t know. Take time to really listen. What if Dolores not only had an interage playground, but a track, community garden, affordable tiny houses, apple orchard, skate park, a new concession stand and organic parks? What if we were an International Dark Sky community? What if we regularly showcased our talented local residents: musicians, artists, chefs, athletes and scholars?
There are so many ways we could be “Destination Dolores” instead of “Drive Through Dolores …”
Please vote. All voices are essential for democracy to work.
