The annual Dolores Chamber of Commerce spring banquet will be held March 10 at the Dolores Community Center.
This year, the theme is a futuristic Sci-Fi Soirée, said chamber director Rocky Moss.
“The banquet has become a very popular community party where folks can dress up in costumes, socialize and network,” she said.
After a catered meal and drinks, Citizen and Business of the Year announced, then speeches, roasts and accolades are given. The event and silent auction raises money for the chamber, and for scholarships awarded to Dolores High School seniors. Since 2014, $15,000 has been given out in scholarships, Moss said.
Money raised from the banquet also goes toward putting on the Escalante Days festival.
Tables will be reserved for teachers and school officials, town board candidates, and past citizen and business of the year winners. Cash prizes will be awarded for costumes.
The professionally decorated event is open to the public.
“The emphasis is on good fun, and getting to know businesses and people in the community,” Moss said. “It’s taking place on the night of daylight savings (time), so we are springing forward into the future!”
Choosing the business and citizens of the year was opened up more to the public the last couple of years, Moss said, instead of just the chamber board choosing. Now nominations are made on an online survey, then the chamber board takes a blind ballot vote.
On the night of the event, a chamber membership meeting will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Then its Cosmic Cocktails, the silent auction, dinner at 7 p.m., and Business and Citizen of the Year announcements at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $30 for individuals or $50 for a pair. A table of eight is $180. To purchase tickets and more information visit the Dolores Chamber of Commerce website.
