I am the parent of a high school junior, so I have 10 years with this district. I am disgusted with the decision makers and this BEST grant.
As for being ashamed because I will not vote for this bond, the people who should be ashamed are the very ones running this district. They should hang their heads and offer a heartfelt public apology to our students and community for accepting substandard results from our future leaders, and offering excuses, not solutions, to this increasing problem. This districts policy is to accept below-average grades and testing results, while blaming the parents, community, and facilities for their shortcomings. They are on the verge of losing accreditation, so even if our students graduate, they will still have to take extra classes (at the students expense) to learn what should have been taught, and what the taxpayers paid for, in high school.
I hear, Act now half-price school; pay now, or pay more later. What good is a new facility if the state doesnt even recognize this district as viable? Dolores is seeing record numbers in education and enrollment. They do not have a new school, and yet still manage to produce increasing results. Seems to me Dolores values education, something I have seen very little of with this district.
I will not have my childs or future childrens education be held ransom for a new school. Which is exactly what I hear, Our children need a new school, or they will be left behind. I think Dolores has proven that is not the case. I am disgusted that instead of fixing an air conditioning problem that the district has known about since last school year, they have been more concerned about building a new high school.
This November, tell Re-1 we want our district to put as much, or more, effort into teaching our children, and giving them the skills they need to succeed, over a new building. Tell them that these numbers 54 percent reading, 56 percent math, and 27 percent science are shameful and unacceptable.
