The Mancos Valley Historical Society selected officers for the 2018 year at a Jan. 25 meeting.
Dr. Linda Simmons will continue to serve as president, Simmons said in a news release. Jan Rains was elected administrative vice president, and Ben H. Wolcott will continue as operations vice president. Donna Watkins will serve as winter secretary and treasurer, and Donna Petersen is summer secretary.
The group also announced that it will create a mini-museum at the Mancos Visitors Center after an invitation by the Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce, Simmons said. Patty Russell will spearhead the first displays, one focusing on the beadwork of Evelyn Eppich. A second will show the cowboy gear of John Wright, author of “La Grulla.” Displays will be available for viewing for a period of three months.
The historical society also announced preliminary plans for historical presentations including one about the Matt Warner’s book “Last of the Bandit Riders.” Warner was a member of Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch.
The society plans to hold its annual yardsale in May, proceeds to support the museum fund.
