I ask the citizens of the Dolores community: What is going on with our little town?
There is so much discontent over a wooden playground that was 16 years old and eventually deteriorated.
I, too, had a difficult time, just like so many others, with parting with this beloved playground which brought so much pleasure not only to the town, but also the community. It was unanimously decided that it was unsafe for our children and there were liability issues.
There is a lot of accusation, misinformation, division and finger pointing! The town has state guidelines and regulations it has to abide by, and it submits financial reports that require a yearly audit. If there was any misappropriation of money, it would have been addressed immediately.
There are election codes town board members have to abide by; they don’t make up the rules as they go. I encourage every community member to go to the Town Hall and obtain the information first hand. This is all public record.
I feel the current mayor, town board and staff are doing an exceptional job and are abiding by policies and procedures. They, too, had a lot of emotions over tearing down the playground, and a very tough decision to make!
Ask yourself, who are these people who are causing this division? Are they locals? Are they residents of the town? Why do we have, “Let’s clean house and take back our town?”
How about, “Keeping Dolores at heart?”
