The Bureau of Land Management’s Tres Rios Field Office is offering firewood permits for ponderosa pine logs to the public following work to clear the Tri-State Generation and Transmission’s right of way west of Dolores.
The logs are in Dolores County near County Road 16, the BLM said Friday in a news release. To obtain the firewood, the public must purchase firewood permits at the Dolores Public Lands Center, 29211 Colorado Highway 184. Permits are $8 per cord.
A chain saw is recommended to cut the logs to a manageable size for loading.
Removing the ponderosa pine was approved under an environmental assessment allowing Tri-State to upgrade its existing power line.
