Mesa Verde National Park will host its annual Holiday Open House on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 4-9 p.m. in the Chapin Mesa Headquarters area.
The park plans special presentations, musical entertainment, storytelling and refreshments, according to a park news release. Farolitos will glow along the pathways throughout the headquarters area, a National Historic Landmark District. Presentations will highlight the history of the Mesa Verde Holiday Open House tradition and the historic buildings. Attendance for the open house is free. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight.
The Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum will remain open until 9 p.m., and there will be entertainment in the Museum Auditorium throughout the evening. Attendees are encouraged to bring print copies of their own luminaria photos from past years to the Chapin Museum for a community photo share. The Four Corners Astronomy Club will offer night sky viewing, weather depending, at the tennis courts. Programs at the Ranger Club, next to the bathrooms, will feature the history of the building, once a ranger dorm, and of the park. A historic photo slide show will be offered on the porch of the Chief Ranger’s Office.
The nonprofit Mesa Verde Museum Association Museum bookstore will be open highlighting the sale of books, posters, puppets, historic photographs, and great holiday gifts, as well as in-store specials. Bring your gift list along to take advantage of this special occasion.
Proceeds benefit Mesa Verde National Park.Refreshments will be provided at the Spruce Tree Terrace.
No park entrance fee will be charged after 4 p.m. on Dec. 14.
