Some people have expressed the desire to see improvement in the quality of the teaching before they will give teachers a better pay.
What happens when teachers find they can get better pay elsewhere and leave the community?
This happened to a teacher I worked with. He decided that Durango was paying teachers better, and so he left. A student told me that her class size now is 34, instead of 17.
The schools are looking for bus drivers. The district just told the schools they want to eliminate bus routes and increase class sizes, or eliminate some classes.
Would you take a lower paying job if a better paying job was in the area?
