Dolores Schools will have their annual Veterans Day program on Friday, Nov. 10, beginning at 9 a.m. in the auxiliary gym.
A reception and brunch for veterans will be held at 8 a.m. in the music room, Building C.
The program is open to the public and will feature readings and speeches by students, music performed by school bands and choir, and open mic time for veterans willing to speak. The entire student body will be in attendance.
“We want to uplift the veterans in our community and let them know that Dolores students appreciate them, respect them, and want them to feel honored on this special day,” said music teacher Margaret Gillette.
Veterans will be escorted to the program by members of the Future Farmers of America, the choir and the bands. Destinee Goddard will play taps, and each military branch anthem will be performed by the bands. The program includes a cover ceremony in which those who have fallen in action or are missing are remembered and honored.
“The students are very passionate about this Veterans Day program and take it very seriously,” Gillette said.
“They want veterans to know that the next generation is remembering them and want to honor them for their service.”
