Family Leadership Training Institute graduate, Katie Greene has begun teaching free community sign language classes as her community project, as all FLTI graduates are assigned a project to better their community. This is a great opportunity to learn some sign language, which is a very useful skill to have. The classes began on Wednesday and will run until July 25, with the exception of July 4. Classes are held Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. The classes are for beginners, but all skill levels are encouraged to come. Childcare for small children (ages 5 to 6 and under) will be provided at the library or in the park outside the library. Children are welcome to attend if they would like to participate in the class.
The class is free (donations will be accepted for the teachers/childcare helpers) and is open to anyone who would like to attend. Staff members of the school district are encouraged to attend, especially those who have direct contact with a deaf or hard of hearing child in their school or class.
