I am writing this letter to ask your support for the Montezuma-Cortez School District mill levy.
The surrounding communities have passed mill levy overrides in order to cope with Colorado’s continued underfunding of education. Students and staff need the same support from our community.
Our school district has a core of dedicated teachers, staff, administrators as well as an elected board that works tirelessly to ensure a life-enriching education to our kids.
As a local businesses owner, I know that every dollar counts, but I also know that by supporting the schools we are making a smart investment in our community’s future.
Just as a competitive wage will help attract and retain teachers, good schools help attract and retain businesses. When everyone in the workforce has access to the education and training needed to reach their full potential, the productivity of those workers and the overall economy improves.
Quality education directly affects the likelihood of employment and higher wages, which immediately reduces the chance of the need to draw on social support programs such as food stamps and Medicaid.
One of the most important things we do together is educate our kids. With strong schools, we can provide kids the education necessary to be successful in their lives and careers. A small investment now results in a substantial value for all taxpayers over time.
I’m asking you to join me in voting yes on the Cortez School District mill levy.
