THURSDAY, MAY 17
A deputy was on patrol when he observed a pickup truck parked in the lower parking lot of Totten Lake. This area is closed from dusk to dawn unless someone is actively engaged in sport fishing. He made contact with the vehicle and noted that the two occupants, a male in the drivers seat and a female in the passenger seat, were making a lot of furtive movements while the deputy pulled up. The deputy spoke with the male and did not observe any fishing poles or fishing accessories in or around the truck. It was apparent that the driver was nervous, continually moving his hands and looking away from the deputy. When asked if he had any weapons in the car, the male replied Yes sir, several. The two occupants were asked to step out of the vehicle. The deputy found a total of two handguns and four long guns. While searching the truck, the deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana. The male admitted to having some, as well as numerous items of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy patrolling County Road G observed a pickup truck driving with no license plate lamp. When he pulled the truck over, the male driver told him that he did not have a drivers license. When asked why he didnt, he stated it was because of speeding tickets. Dispatch confirmed that the subjects driving status came back as revoked as a habitual traffic offender. The subject was very cooperative during the contact with the deputy. He was issued a summons and the vehicle was towed. A licensed driver picked up the subject and the three children with him in the truck. The subject was not arrested due to the children being in need of his care.
FRIDAY, MAY 18
A deputy pulled over an SUV traveling on Road L due to it meandering over the fog line then back into the traffic lane five times. The female driver exhibited several signs of intoxication and was slurring her speech. When asked if she had been drinking, she stated that she had a couple glasses of wine. The subject failed to perform voluntary roadside maneuvers satisfactorily and was placed under arrest. She refused all additional testing and was transported to the jail. Another deputy arrived on scene and spoke with the subjects mother on the phone, and stayed with the SUV until she arrived. The subject was issued a summons for DUI and for weaving, and a notice of revocation, which she refused to sign.
SUNDAY, MAY 20
A deputy on patrol observed a pickup truck traveling north with its headlight out. The truck continued to travel approximately 1/10 of a mile after the deputy activated his emergency lights, before turning onto another road and coming to a stop. The deputy immediately noticed a strong odor of marijuana when he contacted the male driver. The driver admitted that there was marijuana and a pipe in the vehicle, but said the last time he had smoked it was last night. The subject exhibited several physical indicators of being under the influence of drugs. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a valid drivers license, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 23
A deputy was dispatched to a local farm supply store in reference to a theft. An employee of the store that was sitting in her car during her break observed a green Ford Ranger drive into the lot and pull around back. A male and female exited the truck and approached shelves where valve openers are stored. The male approached the shelf and took a valve and returned to his truck and then drove out of the back lot and headed south. The possible plate number provided by the witness did not match the description given of the truck. The deputy was shown surveillance video of the incident. The value of the item stolen was estimated at $103.
A deputy on patrol in Dolores observed a vehicle turn onto Railroad Ave. without using a turn signal. The deputy pulled over the vehicle, and while speaking with the male driver noticed the strong smell of alcohol coming from his breath. The driver also exhibited other physical indicators of being drunk. The driver admitted to drinking 4 beers or so over three hours, with the last being an hour ago at a local Dolores bar. The driver failed to perform voluntary roadside maneuvers satisfactorily. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more, and failure to use turn signals. He was also issued a notice of revocation.
