This is the first three-day weekend of the summer. Tourism is beginning to pick up. School is ending. The weather is warm (and windy, but thats better than cold and windy). Gas is less expensive than predicted. The lake is full, the rivers are fishable, the landscape are green.
Its a great time to be in Southwest Colorado, but dont make the weekend all about recreation.
When you drive by a cemetery this weekend, notice the flags fluttering over veterans graves. While youre enjoying the day off, pause to remember for the men and women who spent holidays in war zones, and to reflect on the sacrifices of those who didnt come home. Dont take for granted the privileges that U.S. military personnel have preserved for the United States and for the rest of the world.
On Memorial Day, remember, and give thanks.
