Why is Dolores gambling with its school district?
When I moved to the area in 2009, Dolores was the place to send your kids. Prominent families from Cortez would drive their children out of district to have them educated in an accredited school with high test scores.
My kids have attended Dolores schools since 2012. Since that time, the student count has fallen, the budget has fallen, test scores have fallen, great teachers have left and those prominent families from Cortez have also left.
Now, families living in the town of Dolores are driving their children to Cortez.
Maybe it’s because since 2012, they have been through two high school principals, three high school vice principals, three high school counselors, three high school athletic directors and six high school secretaries?
It’s time the district stops shuffling the cards from the bottom of the deck and cut the cards from the top ... getting rid of the joker.
This will help create another winning hand for the Dolores Bears!
