With its regular season winding down and its home meet fast approaching, the Montezuma-Cortez High School girls cross country team is beginning to find its form.
The Lady Panthers’ latest race came in Mancos on Sept. 29, when seven members of the team traversed a wet course at Chicken Creek and came through with solid individual finishes.
Leading the way for M-CHS was senior Caisey Duran, who finished 10th overall (25:11), just ahead of teammates Aryanna Silas and Ridley Dennison, who placed 11th (25:17) and 12th (25:31), respectively.
Also turning in solid times for the Lady Panthers were Regina Schuster, who placed 15th (27:01), and Trinity Meyers, who crossed the line in 16th (27:15).
Other varsity finishers for M-CHS included Lynda LaPaz, who placed 19th (28:19), and Maya Lamunyon, who finished 22nd (30:10).
As a team, the Lady Panthers placed third overall, behind San Juan (Blanding) and team-champion Pagosa Springs High School.
Next up for M-CHS will be the Ancient Trails Invitational, which will take place at the Montezuma-County Fairgrounds on Oct. 6.
