The Dolores Lady Bears appear ready for state.
Dolores girls relay teams won three of five events last Saturday at the Abel Velasquez Invitational in Bayfield.
The defending 2A state champion 4x100-meter relay team (Lexi Atkinson, Mindy McCracken, Cassie Lard and Brianna Schwartz) looked sharp as ever, winning in 52.37. Olivia Wright was the anchor on the winning 4x200 team that won at 1:49.23. McCracken, Michelle Kline, Rachel Beverlin and Taylor Elder won the 4x400 in 4:20.34. As a team, the Lady Bears were third behind Bayfield and Pagosa Springs.
Other first-place finishes recorded by the Dolores girls were Lard, 100-meter dash, 27.51; Kline, 400, 62.27; and, Beverlin, 800, 2:35.34.
The Dolores boys came is fourth as a squad, and again were led by Moki Youngquist in the hurdles. The junior crossed the finish line first in the 110- and-300-meter hurdles in 17.84 and 45.76. Alex Goodwin was victorious in the 400, clocking in at 55.30.
Mancos came in third on the boys side behind Bayfield and Pagosa Springs.
Branson Mitchell edged teammate Conner Jankowski to win the 100 in 12.05. Jankowski came in at 12.25. Kenny Philpott continued to secure his No. 1 2A ranking in the high jump. He won jumping 6-2 and placed second in the long jump, leaping 19-7. Mitchell, Philpott, Jankowski and Anthony Reiners won the 4x100 in a time of 46.16.
For the Lady Bluejays, Devin Kroeker was fourth in the high jump (4-8) and eighth in the 100 (14.52). Kristin Adams raced to a fourth-place finish in the 800 at 2:49.80. The Mancos girls were sixth as a team.
Cori Guynes was the runner-up in the 100- and-300-hurdles for the Dove Creek Lady Bulldogs in 17.29 and 50.80. Kristin Knuckles ran to a third-place time of 6:23.59 in the 1,600-meter run. Madison Young threw the shot put and discus 29-11.75 (fourth) and 86-6 (fifth). Dove Creek was fifth as a girls team.
Cole Baughman was second in both the 110- and-300-hurdles at 18.30 and 47.78. Jarod Galyean tossed the shot put (seventh) and discus (eighth) with distances of 35 and 91-9, helping the Bulldogs to a sixth-place team finish.
Mancos, Dolores and Dove Creek will compete Saturday at the Terry Alley Invitational in Pagosa Springs.
