Wednesday, Sept. 6

7:52 a.m.: A man was arrested in Centennial Park, 800 E. Montezuma Ave., on three warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

10:55 a.m.: A woman was served at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., with three warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

12:47 p.m.: A man was issued a summons for shoplifting at Safeway, 1580 E. Main St. Store employees claimed he had tried to steal $31.97 worth of merchandise.

2:04 p.m.: A man was arrested outside O’Reilly Auto Parts, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of violating a protection order. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to severe intoxication.

8:14 p.m.: A woman was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge in the 1000 block of South Oak Street after police responded to a report that she and a man were opening mailboxes on that street. The man was issued a summons on suspicion of an open container violation. Some mail was reportedly found in the woman’s possession and returned to the residents of an Oak Street house, who did not press charges.

Thursday, Sept. 7

3:42 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of South Elm Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

9:19 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at City Market, 508 E. Main St. A man claimed his cell phone, valued at $400, had been stolen out of his shopping cart while he was turned away from it. The case remains under investigation.

11:31 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 800 block of South Chestnut Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor.

Friday, Sept. 8

10:42 a.m.: Police responded to a report of property damage at R&L U-Store It, 2236 E. Main St. The owner claimed someone had knocked down a decorative concrete wall at the entrance to the business, causing about $2,000 of damage. Responding officers reported it looked like the wall had been knocked down with a sledgehammer or other blunt instrument. The case remains under investigation.

Saturday, Sept. 9

1:29 a.m.: A woman was arrested outside Angel’s End Zone, 309 N. Broadway, on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, driving without proof of insurance and making a left turn from the wrong lane.

9:52 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 100 block of South Elm Street on two La Plata County warrants for failure to appear on misdemeanor charges.

1:01 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Enterprise Rental Car, 201 Piñon Drive, on a La Plata County warrant for failure to appear on a traffic offense after another woman claimed she had taken her cell phone. The other woman did not press charges, and the cell phone was returned.

5:26 p.m.: A man was issued a summons outside Safeway, 1580 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting and underage consumption of alcohol. Store employees claimed he had stolen six cases of beer, valued at $92.94 total. Responding officers handcuffed the man and three other occupants of his vehicle and made them lie face down on the ground because they were reportedly rocking their vehicle and moving around when they were pulled over. No charges were pressed against the other three occupants.

6:58 p.m.: A man was arrested at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of possessing a Schedule II controlled substance, DUI, unsafe backing and careless driving after witnesses claimed he had backed into another vehicle while driving in the parking lot and had almost struck a pedestrian. Hydrocodone was found in one of his pockets, and a bottle of vodka was found in his vehicle.

Sunday, Sept. 10

12:17 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 2300 block of East Main Street on suspicion of DUI, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving without a valid license and driving with a broken headlight.

12:10 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 800 block of Brookside Drive. A woman claimed that sometime between Friday evening and that morning, someone had stolen her lawnmower, valued at $250, and a birdhouse valued at $50 that she said had been passed down through several generations of her family. The case remains under investigation.

12:55 p.m.: Police responded to a report of property damage in the 1300 block of Cottonwood Street. A man claimed someone had slashed three of the tires on his vehicle the night before, causing about $660 of damage. The case remains under investigation.

5:29 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed she had tried to steal a sweatshirt, a pair of pants and two animal leashes by concealing them in her purse.

Monday, Sept. 11

12:24 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of West Seventh Street on two warrants for failure to appear on local felony charges and on suspicion of criminal impersonation after he was pulled over for driving a motorized dirt bike without registration. The man reportedly gave police several different names before admitting his real name when officers tried to check his fingerprints. Officers were unable to find the owner of the bike the man was riding, and an investigation is ongoing as to whether it was stolen.

7 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 800 block of North Chestnut Street. A man claimed someone had stolen his outboard motor the night before. The case remains under investigation.

Tuesday, Sept. 12

3:42 p.m.: A man was issued a summons at the Cortez Skate Park, 1200 E. Montezuma Ave., on suspicion of an open container violation. He reportedly threw his copy of the summons into a nearby trash can immediately after signing it.
