During the first 12 minutes of the Dove Creek High School football team’s home opener against Plateau Valley on Friday, Sept. 5, it looked as though the inexperienced Bulldogs would remain competitive.
Thirty-five unanswered points for Plateau Valley over the game’s final three quarters doomed the home team, however, as Dove Creek lost, 41-6.
The Bulldogs were led on offense by Ryan Martinez, who completed 11 of his 30 passes for 148 yards. The junior quarterback also rushed for 33 yards.
Sophomore Walker Cressler scored the lone touchdown for Dove Creek on a 2-yard run in the first quarter, and sophomore Cade Curtis amassed 39 receiving yards.
Now 0-2 on the season, the Bulldogs will look to pick up their first win of the season when they face off against Sangre de Cristo at 1 p.m. on Sept. 16.
