The March 1 Journal had an advertisement placed by Karen Bohn that was quite confusing. She seemed upset that the Republican caucus process selected persons to be on the ballot who were not her preference. The process was originated to involve most, if not all, of the registered Party persons in the selection, not just a few. With the deterioration of our countrys economy and morals, more voters are waking up and getting involved in selecting their representative leaders. This is a big change from the past, when maybe a dozen people met to select their delegates. These were not new faces, just new to being involved in their future.
She alleged that 9-12 people caused her preferred candidates to not get selected. It should be known that 9-12 is not a party. It is not even an organization, but an unaffiliated association of persons of various political leanings, of which only some are registered Republicans. All, however, are concerned with the future of Montezuma County, Colorado and America.
At the county assembly, three of the unseated candidates were nominated/seconded by 9/12 people, and one who was seated was not represented by 9-12.
It should be mentioned that 9-12, as a group, does not back or support any candidate of any party. Its function is to provide a forum for informing its associates on issues which affect them now and into the future. If informing and encouraging people to get involved and participate in their own constitutional right and responsibility is wrong, then we are guilty, and proud of it.
One thing that Ms. Bohn may not be aware of is the number of registered Democrats who switched parties to be able to participate in the Republican caucus. Not 9-12s fault on that. This whole issue may raise the question of the process that leads to the primary. In the very difficult times that are looming before us, we need the best-qualified persons with integrity to help lead us. It will be good if the candidates who did not get seated will be able to petition on, so all can be considered, which is as it should be.
