Competing against Colorado’s top amateur swimmers at the Colorado Senior Long Course State Championships in Denver, July 21-23, athletes from the Cortez Leopard Sharks and the Mesa Verde Aquatics Club performed well.
Earning the best finish among local swimmers was 14-year-old Mesa Verde Aquatics Club member Trent Bagge, who placed 12th in the boys’ 13-14 division of the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 26.74. Bagge also placed 34th in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:21.49) and 36th in the 100-meter freestyle (1:00.69).
Also cracking the Top 15 in an individual event was Cortez Leopard Shark Victoria Duran, who placed 13th in the 1500-meter freestyle (19:41.95) in the girls’ 13-14 age division. Duran also placed 23rd in the 400-meter freestyle (4:57.06), 46th in the 200-meter freestyle (2:23.78) and 111th in the 100-meter freestyle (1:08.89).
Mesa Verde Aquatics Club team member Samantha Bagge placed 29th in the 50-meter freestyle (29.01), 55th in the 100-meter freestyle (1:04.62) and 56th in the 100-meter butterfly (1:18.12), while Cortez Leopard Shark Bailey Duran placed 88th in the 100-meter freestyle (1:06.06) and 109th in the 50-meter freestyle (30.91). Both Duran and Bagge competed in the girls’ 15-and-over age division.
Rounding out the local competitors was Cortez Leopard Shark Tyler Cutrone, who finished 52nd in the boys’ 15-and-over 100-meter breaststroke (1:19.87).
