During its monthly meeting on Tuesday night, the Cortez City Council will vote on several issues discussed in previous workshops.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. for another workshop, then hold its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall. Council board members will vote on seven resolutions and ordinances, including one that would offer some employee benefits to city volunteers and one that would waive certain fees for the construction of a new Bridge Emergency Shelter. The meeting is open to the public.
At previous work sessions, the council members have discussed the possibility of awarding an employee discount on city services to volunteers who serve on other boards and commissions. At their July 1 meeting, most of them agreed the discount should come in the form of a $75 gift certificate to be used at places like the Cortez Recreation Center, and that it should not apply to council members. The council will vote on a resolution to implement the discount on Tuesday.
Another item on the agenda is a resolution that would waive building permit fees and some plant investment fees for the Bridge Emergency Shelter during the construction of its new building on Park Street. That issue also came out of the July 11 workshop, where most council members expressed approval of it.
In addition to the resolutions, the council will consider approving the first reading of several ordinances, including one that would prohibit unauthorized entry to the Conquistador Golf Course, in response to complaints that have come up for discussion several times at Golf Advisory Board meetings.
The workshop before the meeting will include a review of a Colorado Department of Transportation corridor safety program, as well as updates on the recent Colorado Municipal League Conference, the city’s Best and Brightest Internship Program and the Cortez Little League.
