Sunday, July 2

2:46 a.m.: Deputies responded to a possible suicide threat in the 20000 block of U.S. Highway 491. Relatives reported that a woman had texted several of her children with threats of suicide. Deputies traced the location of the woman’s cell phone to a campground near Mancos, but learned that the woman had traveled to Bloomfield, New Mexico. They notified police there and soon learned the woman had been transported for a mental evaluation.

6:10 p.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant for failure to comply after deputies responded to a report that he and a man had parked a vehicle on a lawn in the 26000 block of County Road H. He and the other man appeared to be falling asleep when deputies arrived, and he was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail.

9:12 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of domestic violence in the 25000 block of County Road E. A woman claimed her husband had been drinking heavily and had “caused a scene” at Main Street Brewery, Cortez, earlier in the evening before she had driven home without him. Her juvenile son, who was present throughout the alleged disturbance, said the man had threatened to kill him. When a deputy called him, he reportedly threatened the deputy as well. Deputies were granted a warrant for the suspect’s arrest.

11:12 p.m.: Deputies assisted the Cortez Police Department with a search for a female juvenile whose mother had reported her as a runaway the day before. They found the girl at a residence in the 25000 block of County Road F and returned her to her mother.

Monday, July 3

1:10 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a stolen license plate in the 16000 block of County Road 25. A man reported his license plate was missing, but he had removed the screws and touched all the parts of the vehicle that could have provided clues before reporting the theft. Deputies closed the case due to a lack of evidence.

2:45 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a stolen license plate in the 18000 block of County Road 21. A woman claimed her license plate had gone missing after a trip to Durango two days before. She had wiped the vehicle down before reporting the incident, and deputies closed the case due to a lack of evidence.

10:24 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of North 15th Street on suspicion of disorderly conduct. Deputies responded to a report that an intoxicated man had entered an apartment complex where he didn’t live and was yelling while apparently searching for his girlfriend in the vehicles parked outside. When responding deputies arrested him, the man reportedly tried to pull away, leading one deputy to tackle him to the ground. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being transported to jail.

Wednesday, July 5

12:49 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of two small brush fires in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 160. After firefighters from the Cortez Fire Protection District put out the fire, a third one was reported about a quarter mile away. Deputies determined the first two fires were most likely started by a thrown cigarette, but they did not find a cause for the third one. All the fires were put out without causing property damage or injury.

9:53 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of possible property damage at Reliable Marina, 24301 County Road L. The business operator said he had found gravel spin-outs in the parking lot every day for the past few months, which he suspected were caused by ATVs in the area, and had found a small nick in the front door window that morning. The case remains under investigation.

10:48 a.m.: A woman was served with a warrant for failure to comply at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

10:23 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle in the 13000 block of County Road 20. A pickup was parked with its front against a tree and the rest of it blocking the road. Deputies requested the vehicle be towed while they looked for the owner, but when the tow truck arrived, a man and a woman appeared and reportedly tried to drive the vehicle away, claiming it belonged to them. Neither their names nor the name of the person they claimed had traded it to them were on the vehicle’s title, so deputies refused to release it to them, instead transporting it to the impound lot.

Thursday, July 6

10:55 a.m.: A man turned himself in at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear.

8:31 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of an unauthorized in the 100 block of North Seventh Street, Dolores, in violation of town ordinance. The rooster’s owner was given a verbal warning, and he said he had removed the rooster from the property the day before.

9:20 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a break-in in the 28000 block of U.S. Highway 160. A man claimed one of his front windows had been broken. Deputies found spots of dry blood leading away from the window. The case remains under investigation.

Friday, July 7

5 p.m.: Deputies issued summonses to 10 property owners in the Dolores area for violation of town ordinances requiring abatement of noxious weeds.

7:19 p.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 11000 block of U.S. Highway 491 on suspicion of reckless driving and illegal passing on the left. Another man claimed the suspect had passed him by driving north in the southbound lane at high speed. He said he had followed the suspect to tell him to stop driving recklessly, and the suspect tried to fight him.

Saturday, July 8

10:46 a.m.: Deputies responded to a theft report in the 26000 block of County Road P. A man said his dog was missing from his yard when he returned home on June 30, and he suspected it had been stolen. He found it at a pound in Durango, where he said employees told him it had been found near the Lightner Creek forest fire on July 1. The case remains under investigation.
