Rosa Sabido (Journal, June 30) has been living in Colorado for over 30 years, contributing to the community, abiding by the law and paying her taxes.
She has renewed her immigration status annually while working through the red tape required to become a citizen. This year, the (previously routine) annual renewal of her status was denied; she is subject to deportation and is now living in sanctuary.
It is foolish to characterize all foreign nationals as criminals sucking at the American breast. What President Trump doesn’t seem to understand is that legal immigrants like Rosa, who have been playing by the rules all along, jumping through the government’s hoops because they want to be here, are critical to the healthy functioning of the economy in this part of the country.
In fact, our economy would quickly collapse if the contributions made by “aliens” were suddenly withdrawn.
I stand with Rosa in her effort to remain in this country. And what a lovely synchronicity that this brave 21st-century trailblazer, like that brave woman at the front of the bus decades ago, is also called Rosa.
